How Pro Photographers Get Models To Flash Their Best Smile

How Pro Photographers Get Models To Flash Their Best Smile

There are tricks of the trade in every business and photography has more than its share of them.

I'm not much of a people picture taker these days, meaning I now take only a few hundred of them every year, which isn't really a lot during these digital camera days.

However, pictures of people are what people take most often, so it pays to know how to take good ones and I found this video tutorial by a pro photographer that should prove helpful.

Even though the tutorial deals with pro models the ideas for evoking a great smile from your subjects are easily adaptable to everyday snap shots. Besides, there will be times when you want to take some pictures that are a bit more portrait-like in nature; and then these hints will come in handy.

Here's some additional information for taking better digital pictures of people.

Take a camera with you whenever possible, and look around, you'll find a picture somewhere.

Celebrity Couples Ups And Downs

Celebrity Couples Ups And Downs

There are all sorts of things going on in Hollywoodland these days from a 5 million dollar ring to relationships that ended almost before they began.

Beyonce quietly unveiled the little bauble that Jay-Z gave her several months ago, and it turned out to be an 18 carat diamond, valued at a very cool $5,000,000.00.

Now that's a rock! I wonder if Beyonce will come down with "finger fatigue" from lugging it around.

Meanwhile on a more sour note it appears that the Salma Hayek - Francois-Henri Pinault relationship is really passe but the guy is attentive to their 11-month-old daughter.

Check out this article to find out what's going on with Ashlee Simpson, Uma Thurman, Ellen DeGeneres, and other celebrity's relationships.

Latest Celebrity Style Screw-Ups

Latest Celebrity Style Screw-Ups

What the....?

Man, I'm sorry but that's just too weird. Maybe I'm too old to appreciate it, but that's one bizarre head of hair. And, oh yeah, the makeup, I think this guy has a girl tucked away inside.

What can I say? This is a clear case of "One picture being worth 10,000 words", and yes, the correct quote is 10,000 words, not 1,000.

Anyhow we've got a bunch of pictures of Katie Holmes and other celebrities who did their best to look their worst.

Britney Spears Cools Off In Las Vegas

Everyone comes here to Las Vegas to wind down, or wind up, depending on his or her current needs.

Britney Spears has been enjoying her new found freedom, from marriage, kids and rehab, and has made some progress with reviving her career.

So, a few days ago, America's favorite Space Cadet trekked to Las Vegas for a bit of relaxation and girl talk with some friends at, possibly, The Mirage Hotel and Casino, although the exact property is unconfirmed.

Here's the story about Britney Spears' Vegas vacation.

Note that a Spears spokesperson said that Britney may have a surprise prepared for this Sunday's "MTV Music Awards"; so if you're a fan be sure to tune in.

If you're interested in Las Vegas and gabling please visit my "PlayTime Las Vegas" blog.

Should Celebrities' Views On Politicians Count?

Should Celebrities' Views On Politicians Count?

A quick answer to the question of whether or not to put any faith in what celebrities have to say about politics and politicians is: "No more or less than anyone else."

These days, like it or not, popularity, and not so much qualifications and proven ability, are the standards by which many people judge those in the spotlight.

Of course, in the end, it all comes down to one's perception of what is or isn't the truth, and that's something that can be swayed by one's like or dislike of an individual.

So why not listen to what celebrities have to say about politics and politicians. People routinely listen to Conservative talk show hosts such as Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, and Rush Limbaugh, who are, after all, nothing more than celebrities who are entertainers.

These guys have no qualifications to speak of that makes them experts in politics. None of them has held public office, or holds an advanced degree in an appropriate field, or worked for a politician, and yet they are regarded as experts in the area of Conservative politics.

Conservative talk show hosts simply say what their audience wants to hear, and because of that they have become popular, and to some listeners, believable.

In fact, they are nothing more than celebrity "opinionists" who should not be believed just because they have public platforms.

That's the same category that "Hollywood type" celebrities fall into, they have opinions, just like everyone else, and we are free to agree or disagree with them.

John McCain has stated that Barrack Obama is nothing more than a celebrity; but he, McCain, has been a "celebrity" for decades, because he is a former POW.

The truth is that anyone who gains prominence, particularly at the national or world-wide level, can be considered a celebrity; but this does not make someone right or wrong on a given subject

Perennial bigmouth and fear monger, John Voight, flapped his yap recently in a most negative way about Barrack Obama.

So I listened to him, or rather I read what he said, and, I reject what he says, as alarmist and unfounded, much the same as Hannity, O'Reilly, and Limbaugh.

But that's my opinion; your conclusion may be different.

Here's what some other Hollywood celebrities have to say about the current political scene.

The Life of a Jazz Singer.

The Life of a Jazz Singer.
"The great jazz singer Anita O''Day operated in some far-out be-bop realm of her own, a small kingdom of dingy nightclubs and brute-force trios where she flashed her sharp, pretty teeth and her knowing cartoon eyes while living on the edge of music and even consciousness," writes Dan Callahan, who, in his review of Anita O''Day: The Life of a Jazz Singer at the House Next Door, recalls interviewing the woman herself in 2000.

"Ms O''Day, who died two years ago at 87, invented a cool, dry jazz singing style that influenced many, most notably June Christy and Chris Connor," writes Stephen Holden in the New York Times. "It was all about rhythm, improvisation and hip attitude. What repeatedly comes to mind when people invoke Ms O''Day is her feral, instinctive drive for freedom, both artistic and personal."

Madonna Loves Maddona

Madonna Loves Maddona

I always wondered about these biographies that are written by people close, that is, a relative, to the person being written about.

In some cases where there has been bad blood, one expects the work to be nasty, but when there is a normal relationship between the parties does a biographer really stick to the truth, especially if it is negative?

On the other hand, would the writer spice the work up with a bit of truth bending, towards the negative, to make the book seem more believable, or to make it more salable?

I say this because, let's face it, we live in a negative society where a person's faults are the focus of our attention.

If I can play dime store psychologist for a moment I guess the reason for this is that if we can find faults in others our own might not seem so bad or uncommon.

Here's the skinny on how the Madonna biography came about and what you can expect in the book.

Children's Books By Celebrities

Children's Books By Celebrities

Celebrities often engage in a variety of pursuits other than the one that made them famous and writing is one of the most common.

Now anyone can write, or have someone ghost write, their life story, or biography as we call them, but not everyone can write in a truly creative vein.

There has always been a tremendous demand for children's books, and some people are quite adept at writing them, such as Henry Winkler.

That's right, the former, "Fonz", of "Happy Days" writes children's books.

So does, Josie Bissett, the former siren of "Melrose Place", seen above in the then and now photos.

Here's where you can see who else is writing children's books among other things.

Check out this link in case you're wondering what the rest of the "Melrose Place" cast looks like and is up to these days.

Celebrity Green Team

Celebrity Green Team

Many celebrities are activists who use their star power to champion causes that they are sympathetic to.

These days one of the most popular causes is the "Green Initiative"; an issue that has caused world-wide concern among celebrities and non-celebrities for decades.

Although the main thrust of the Green Initiative is to identify and stop pollutants that harm the Earth's environment there are also movements afoot to eliminate anything that is harmful to life on Earth.

Here's a photo story about a recent rally attended by Jim Carrey, Jenny McCarthy and other celebrities aimed at eliminating toxins in vaccines.
