I always wondered about these biographies that are written by people close, that is, a relative, to the person being written about.

In some cases where there has been bad blood, one expects the work to be nasty, but when there is a normal relationship between the parties does a biographer really stick to the truth, particularly if it is negative?

Conversely, would the writer spice the work up with a bit of truth bending, towards the negative, to make the book seem more believable, or to make it more salable?

I say this because, let's face it, we live in a negative society where a person's faults are the focus of our attention.
